
me and music run deep. i'm talking saxophones, pianos, drums, clarinets, and 2 turntables & a microphone. music theory and application i learned from Mr. Larry Colbert, Mrs. Suasan Dinwiddie, and Mr. Robert Matthews - in that order. but the power of music i learned from Hip Hop.
all of those years of trying to play l.L. and Eric B. & Rakim on an alto horn owes a little something to the first official commercially successful Hip Hop joint - Rapper's Delight. i heard this morning on the way to work and damn near passed out trying to recite all of the lyrics. most of which i still know, surprisingly. a lot of cats still don't get credit for helping to pioneer massive creative endeavors, so it's time for a little history lesson. and since Hip Hop is going the way of Mickey D's and Rock & Roll, it' s time for a little reminder that every success story has some contentious issues intertwined....
