Mose Tolliver is gone, P.W. Botha is gone, and our October surprise is also a November surprise..of sorts...
John Kerry stuck his foot in his mouth again, and yet another Conservative has turned out to be a closeted, hypocritical freak...imagine that
First Brian J. Doyle, Gov. James McGreevey, Mark Foley, and now Ted Haggard...trying to control everyone else's lives, and can't be real about their own...and the truth (or as much as your ego will allow you to share) shall set you free....which brings me to tomorrow....
Election Day....this time, it's personal....
I can't say much more than get out and do the damn thing....
I spent the better part of last Friday on Interstate 85, headed to Montgomery, Alabama in search of the ever elusive career...Once I arrived, I was greeted by a very diverse group (educationally and ethnically) that was vying for the same gig...And it has since hit me, that there was a time not too long ago that both my mad dash down 85, and my inclusion in the preliminary runnnig for said gig, would have either been hampered or obstructed outright by local custom and/or government...Those days are gone, but not forgotten...So tomorrow, I'll get out and cast my ballot...It's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it....
So to aid and abet in your election motivation....
Remembering those who fight the good fight

Before I do anything else, I have to say what's up to my dear grandmother who just turned 80 years young a few days ago. For 30 of those years, she entertained, enlightened and cultured me. She taught me the proper way to drink a soda (perfectly frosty, and never flat), that tuna drizzled with lemon juice is the only way to go and just about anything can help a garden grow.
So much of what she shared with me has been utilized by too many to name.
And in an effort to obscure all of our misdeeds as children, grandchildren and great grandchildren (specifically regarding broken knickknacks and burned carpets), we threw a nice little shindig in her honor, and a good time was had by all. A raucous good time complete with food, folks and fun. There are of course the clichés reminding us, sometimes necessarily, to praise and honor those around us before one of us are either called to glory or downsized and out-sourced to another country.
At this time of year while we attempt to change time, we transition with Halloween, then move to All Saints and All Souls Day. Each a holy, reverential day in their own right - not unlike a birthday. Indeed, we always should honor those who came before, those who are here and those who will come by the path plowed by the aforementioned. The problem is that we often forget to include ourselves in that number. It is my humble opinion that we are prone to live our lives in the guise of superheroes and super-creatures that one might spot on All Hallows Eve - attempting to blend in with the demons that we simultaneously want to scare away.
However, demons don't sway that easily. They typically have to be faced head on. The late Rosa Parks knew just that. She, like many before her, vowed to no longer bow, scrape or be broken. People are not born to be inferior or wear the burdensome garments of the falsely accused - Parks knew that as well when she refused to move to the back of a segregated bus. While she wasn't the first to challenge Jim Crow laws, she certainly blazed the trail that continues today.
So when the time comes, don't hesitate to stand up, or sit down, for what you believe and know to be right. Speak power to truth, and know in your heart of hearts that your vindication might never come from any man or woman's lips. But rest assured that you spent your days fighting the good fight.
